A busy day can leave you exhausted, yet thoughts of tomorrow’s meeting can keep you awake. Notice whether the difficulty is falling asleep, staying asleep or both.
Review the hour before bed
Note late caffeine, evening alcohol and work messages. Write down tomorrow’s tasks and leave your phone outside the bedroom.
When sleep will not come
Try a quiet activity in dim light and return to bed when sleepy. Aim for a similar wake-up time on weekdays and weekends.
When to seek help
Discuss persistent sleep disruption, daytime difficulties or pauses in breathing during sleep with a clinician. Do not stop prescribed sleep medication on your own. Assessment guides any tests, lifestyle advice or treatment.
